Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) Wiki

Around the time period of 2ndMIX, Konami made several CLUB VERSIONS of Dance Dance Revolution to link with the then recently released Beatmania IIDX series. These mixes featured songs from IIDX and could be linked for a form of session with the IIDX machine.

General Information / Changes[]

Vol. 1[]

  • Dance Dance Revolution 2ndMIX with beatmania IIDX CLUB VERSiON features 13 songs from the beatmania and beatmania IIDX series.
    • Note that both games (beatmania IIDX and Dance Dance Revolution) must be active and played for the CLUB VERSiON to activate. Otherwise, the game will only load Dance Dance Revolution 2ndMIX.
  • Song audio is based on the in-game versions of the song in beatmania IIDX. This also applies to its sequel.
  • Both CLUB VERSiON and CLUB VERSiON2 do not have COUPLE charts. Instead, when Couple mode is chosen before selecting CLUB VERSION, the games use the charts from VERSUS play.

Vol. 2[]

  • Second and final CLUB VERSiON game. Includes nearly all the songs present in beatmania IIDX substream.
    • All the songs from VERSiON 1 are also included, with brand new charts.
      • Their new Single Another charts are copies of their VERSiON 1 Single Basic charts, aside from Dr. LOVE, been so long, and R3.
  • beatmania IIDX substream and Dance Dance Revolution 2ndMIX AND beatmania IIDX substream CLUB VERSiON 2 debuted on the same day, the first time both games' newest entries debuted on the same day.
    • Like its prequel, both games (beatmania IIDX and Dance Dance Revolution) must be active and played for the CLUB VERSiON to activate. Otherwise, the game will only load Dance Dance Revolution 2ndMIX LINK VERSION.
    • Like with 2ndMIX, you must enter a code to play MANIAC charts, which is done by pressing ←←←→→→←→ on the foot panels while selecting ANOTHER.
  • This is the last version of Dance Dance Revolution to run on KONAMI's System 573 Analog hardware.
  • Last Dance Dance Revolution arcade game to have the announcer used from the very first game.
  • The rating scale has been expanded from 8 to 9. Charts rated level 9 would first appear in the mainline Dance Dance Revolution games in 3rdMIX.
  • None of the CLUB VERSiON songs were transferred to 3rdMIX.
    • Four of the songs were given AMD remixes instead in 3rdMIX, and KEEP ON MOVIN' got a new set of charts.
    • 28 of the 42 songs would later be removed in 3rd style as well.
    • A few of the CLUB VERSiON songs were later added to the arcade series in EXTREME, making their first arcade appearance without beatmania IIDX hook-up needed.
  • Total Songs: 42 (2ndMIX mode not included)

Releases[]

Club Version 1[]

Dance Dance Revolution 2ndMix with Beatmania IIDX Club Version, was also released on April 21, 1999. It has a completely different song list from 2nd Mix, instead featuring all 13 songs from Beatmania IIDX. The two arcade machines are designed to be linked to each other, allowing simultaneous play by two to four players (up to two on each machine). One song is selected by IIDX players, and is then played on both machines.[1] For DDR players, only one difficulty is available for each song, although there is a different step set for Doubles mode.[citation needed] If a player on either machine fails the song, play continues as long as at least one player is passing.[2]

Club Version also introduced Vivid, which changes the color-cycling for arrows based on their placement within each bar of music. This allows players to better time their steps based on visual information, and has been enabled by default in most subsequent DDR games.

Club Version 2[]

Dance Dance Revolution 2ndMix and Beatmania IIDX Substream Club Version 2 was released on July 27, 1999, and is able to link with Beatmania IIDX Substream. Both machines contain 42 songs, including the 13 from Club Version. Club Version 2 allows DDR players to change the step pattern difficulty before each song, between Basic, Another, and Maniac (or just Basic and Another for Doubles mode). Song selection can be done on either machine, but the game now ends if any one of the players fails the song.[3]

Club Version 2 also introduces the Catastrophic level of difficulty for 9-foot songs.[4][5]

Home versions[]

Later in 1999, Dance Dance Revolution 2ndReMix Append Club Version Vol.1 and Dance Dance Revolution 2ndReMix Append Club Version Vol.2 were released in Japan for the PlayStation. Each of these has about half the songs from the arcade Club Version 2.[6][7]

On April 27, 2000, Konami released Dance Dance Revolution Club Version Dreamcast Edition for the Sega Dreamcast. They took advantage of the larger media format for Dreamcast and consolidated the two Club Versions into one game.[8]

General Information / Changes[]

Vol. 1[]

  • One of two APPEND Dance Dance Revolution games. You need a copy of Dance Dance Revolution 2ndReMIX or Dance Dance Revolution 3rdMIX CS to play it, and you must access the DISC CHANGE option from the menu in order to boot up the game.
    • However, the 2ndREMIX interface will be used, regardless if the player disc changed from either 2ndReMIX or 3rdMIX.
  • Songs now have labels on the music select screen, as well as song previews.
  • Song list consists only of songs from the original beatmania IIDX arcade game, minus all of its licenses (except for The Theme from "Flo-jack") and hidden songs.

      • However, the songs are not unlocked instantly for ALL MUSIC mode, they have to be unlocked by being first played on EASY, NORMAL and HARD modes.
    • Also unlike the PlayStation releases, Dance Dance Revolution CLUB VERSiON Dreamcast Edition is not an APPEND disc, and does not require 2ndMIX DreamCast Edition to play.
  • Not compatible with Dreamcast's VGA mode.
  • The SELECT MUSIC screen's interface is based on Dance Dance Revolution 2ndReMIX APPEND CLUB VERSiON vol.1's SELECT MUSIC background.
