Dance Dance Revolution Universe 3 is a music video game, developed by Hudson Soft and published by Konami and released in 2008 for Xbox 360.
General Information / Changes[]
NA version[]
- Much like Dance Dance Revolution UNIVERSE2, Dance Dance Revolution UNIVERSE3 can be played on North American and Japanese Xbox 360 consoles.
- Only game in the UNIVERSE series to not have a European counterpart.
- Final North American CS Dance Dance Revolution title to feature licenses from the A Different Drum label.
- Third Xbox series DanceDanceRevolution game to feature a commissioned partnership with Diskowarp Records.
- First and only North American Dance Dance Revolution release to feature Konami's partnership with avex's house nation compilation series.
- First Dance Dance Revolution title for an Xbox console to use brackets for song titles.
- Final Xbox Dance Dance Revolution game developed by Hudson Soft.
- Several songs are announced in the back of the game's box that are not included in-game.
- For the first time in the Xbox series, UNIVERSE3 has jumps count as one step for combo purposes, similar to every arcade Dance Dance Revolution title since Dance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA.
- It also follows the Dance Dance Revolution SuperNOVA2 grading system now of 990,000 points being required for a AAA, as opposed to max score.
- First CS Dance Dance Revolution title to use jackets instead of banners for songs on the song select screen. The arcade Dance Dance Revolution series would adapt this practice beginning with Dance Dance Revolution X2.
- Quest Mode is a revamped version of Dance Dance Revolution ULTRAMIX4's unlocking system.
- None of the DLC from previous UNIVERSE titles work on UNIVERSE3.
- None of the original Dance Dance Revolution dancer cast returns. All characters are original to the game except for VALENCIA, GUY, RICO and SYLVIA, who first appeared in Dance Dance Revolution (PC).
- VALENCIA can be downloaded as a paid DLC announcer. She's the only DanceDanceRevolution character to appear as an announcer and makes the game one of the few Dance Dance Revolution CS titles to feature a Japanese announcer.
- Only North American CS Dance Dance Revolution title with lyrics on-screen.
- It is also the only Dance Dance Revolution title since Dance Dance Revolution 3rdMIX to feature lyrics for KONAMI original songs.
- Some Achievements in the game are impossible to obtain, and have never been legitimately obtained (e.g. unlocking all costumes), due to a few timing issues that are present in QUEST MODE. Some challenges (some of which involve getting 100% GOODs) cannot be cleared, which are required to unlock some items.
- A Chinese version of the game was later released, with some exclusive songs.
- Total songs: 69, plus 33 DLC songs
CH version[]
- 熱舞革命宇宙3 中文曲特别版 (Dance Dance Revolution UNIVERSE3 Chinese Music Special Edition) is a direct port of Dance Dance Revolution UNIVERSE3, with a few differences:
- The song list was expanded with 20 exclusive Chinese pop songs and one KONAMI original, CLASSIC PARTY triathlon.
- All the licensed songs except Alice, Bad Taste, Gutterpunk and parade were removed.
- The KONAMI original song Midnight Blaze (SySF Mix) was also removed.
- Total Songs: 78
